Sport Central has once again provided opportunities to many children and youth to become active and participate in the sport of their choice.
Today along with the help of Hockey Alberta, United Cycle and Alberta's Promise, Sport Central sent sporting goods valued in excess of $150,000 to Maskwacis, the community formerly known as Hobbema. This equipment will give children and youth throughout the region the gear they need to play hockey, golf, volleyball, basketball and participate in other assorted activities.
Kyle Wolfe, Youth Worker from Maskwacis Health Services, stated "We are so pleased to receive this equipment to enable the children in this community to access existing rinks, gyms and nearby golf courses. We have the facilities, all that was missing was the gear. Sport Central and its partners are filling that need."
Touring the Sport Central facilities this afternoon, it is clear that today's efforts are only a portion of the good that this organization does in our community. Sheldon Oleksyn, Sport Central's new Executive Director, led us around the bike shop, lined with bikes of all sizes and through the storage spaces filled with refurbished equipment, ready at a moments notice for children who could not otherwise afford it.
